Advent Day #20

Tea #20 - "Black Tea with Fig"

One thing I am really enjoying about this process is how many different kinds of tea and flavours I get to try! This tea’s name had me thinking it would be unique and simple, and when I put my nose to the tea bag, it was just as I expected it would be. It was very fine in the tea bag, and when I started brewing it, the strong fig aroma hit me immediately. The recommended brewing time was 1-3 minutes, and since I like my tea strong, I kept it in for 3 minutes. Well, that was not enough or maybe the tea is just very meek? I did get a mild fig flavour out of it, but otherwise, it could have been any other tea bag I might buy anywhere. I am wondering if I would have enjoyed it more with a little sugar, but this time of year, I eat too many sweets and don’t need to be adding any sugar to my tea! Fortnum & Mason states this tea was inspired by their figgy pudding, and I have never had the opportunity to eat figgy pudding, so I can’t really speak to that, but I am guessing if there were a little more than 5% fig pieces and 4% fig flavouring, I might have appreciated the “figginess” more. Not a bad tea, just might benefit from a bit more fig. 5/10
